RefWorks

RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool that is free to Penn State users.

Overview

RefWorks home screenNote: Penn State does not have a subscription to the full RefWorks, so some features will not be available to Penn State users. Note that Penn State access does not allow use of RefWorks with Microsoft Word.

To create a new RefWorks account:

  • Go to Library Search and click on "RefWorks Log In" in the top, right corner
  • On the RefWorks login page, click the bottom link: "No account? Sign up here"
  • Enter your Penn State email, then enter a password created by you, and click "Sign Up." Check your Penn State email to verify your new account.

Use RefWorks to:

  • easily import citations and articles
    • 2GB of storage
    • keep your account when you graduate
  • share readings and collaborate with up to 10 people
  • read, highlight, and annotate documents
  • generate bibliographies automatically using APA, MLA and other common citation styles
  • cite documents from your library and change citation styles with the touch of a button with the Google Docs add-on.

Get Started with RefWorks

RefWorks is entirely web-based, so once you create your account (see above), you can log in from any computer.

After you have created an account:

  • Login from Library Searchfolder icon linking to RefWorks
    Save desired items from your search results to your folder and click on the folder icon to import them to RefWorks
  • Alternatively, log in at refworks.proquest.com to view and manage your references
