Streaming Video

Online videos are available from the music databases described below, which are licensed by the University Libraries for use by Penn State students and faculty for teaching, learning, and research

The Digital Concert Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic provides streaming access to live and archived concerts of the Berlin Philharmonic, documentary films and artist portraits, and interviews with conductors and soloists. **Note about access: Limited to 3 simultaneous users, so remember to log out of your session.
The Digital Concert Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic provides streaming access to live and archived concerts of the Berlin Philharmonic, documentary films and artist portraits, and interviews with conductors and soloists. For access, please register with your Penn State email address and a password by clicking the yellow button, "Start Institutional Access." Once your email address is confirmed (check your messages), you can use the yellow Log In button for future access. Please select the logout option before you leave your session. Met Opera on Demand streams video and audio recordings from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Met Opera on Demand is an online streaming video service that allows users to watch and listen to over 500 complete Metropolitan Opera performances using a mobile device or computer.

Opera in Video streams video recordings of opera performances.
Opera in Video streams video recordings of opera productions and documentaries. Coverage is from the baroque era to the present.
Dance in Video This link opens in a new window
Dance in Video streams video recordings of dance performances. Genres include modern dance, ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and experimental.
Dance in Video streams video recordings of dance productions from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Digital Theatre Plus This link opens in a new window
Full-length productions from around the world, with captures from the likes of Broadway HD, Shakespeare’s Globe, and a range of contemporary companies. Request a Streaming Video for Teaching (for Instructors)

If you are not able to locate a music- or dance-related video in the databases described above which you need for teaching, please contact the Music & Media Center at musiccenter@psu.edu. The Music Librarian will collaborate with the library's Acquisitions Department to investigate the availability of the streaming video you need.

DVDs

Penn State's libraries at every campus have DVDs and other videos. Altogether approximately 30,000 DVDs are available to Penn State library users. The DVDs and other videos can be requested from any Penn State library.

To search for DVDs in the library catalog, follow these steps:
This is the online catalog of materials owned by Penn State Libraries. All formats (books, journals, audiovisuals, maps, recordings, etc.) are included. Circulation status for individual items is also provided. Coverage: Presently contains about 7 million records. Updates: Continuous up-to-the-minute as new records are added.

Click on Advanced Search and enter relevant search terms (such as words from the title, names of the director or actors) in the search boxes at the top of the screen.
Scroll down to "AND have these attributes."
From the Media Type menu, select DVD.
Click the blue Search button.

From the resulting list of DVDs, click on "View Availability" to see which libraries have a DVD. To request a DVD from any library, use the "I Want It" button and select your preferred pickup location from the menu.
