Request Streaming Audio for Teaching (for Instructors)

If you are not able to locate a music recording in the databases described above which you need for teaching, please contact the Music & Media Center at musiccenter@psu.edu to request that a sound recording be made available in streaming format for your course. The Music & Media Center employs streaming technology to provide access to audio being studied in courses for Penn State students and faculty, in compliance with the fair use provisions of copyright law.

Sound Recordings: CDs, Vinyl Records

Penn State's libraries have large collections of music on compact discs (CDs) and vinyl records (LPs). Use our library catalog to locate and borrow CDs and vinyl records:

  • Click on "Advanced Search" and enter relevant search terms (such as words from the title, or names of composers or performers) in the search boxes at the top of the screen.
  • Scroll down to "AND have these attributes." From the Format menu, select Audio.
  • From the Media Type menu, select your preferred media type, such as CD or Vinyl disc.
  • Click the blue Search button.

From the resulting list of sound recordings, click on "View Availability" to see which libraries have the recordings. To request a sound recording from any library, use the "I Want It" button and select your preferred pickup location from the menu.
