OSTP Mandate: Public Access Policies for Federally Funded Research

Quick guide to public access requirements from federal funding agencies.

Smithsonian Institution

The Smithsonian Public Access Policy is currently in effect (since October 1, 2015):

  • Fully covers published outputs.
  • Fully covers data. 
  • Requires all research proposals to include a Data Management Plan (DMP).

All applicable publications and supporting data resulting from federally funded research need to be submitted to the Smithsonian Research Online (SRO) or CHORUS.
