Government Documents Collections

The Penn State Libraries maintains collections of U.S., Pennsylvania, and foreign/international government documents in all formats: print, microfiche, microfilm, CD/DVD, and digitized content.

The Penn State Libraries are a depository library for United States and Pennsylvania government documents. Foreign/International documents come to the Libraries from various sources. The Libraries are a depository library for European Union publications and have a repository agreement with the United Nations for official publications of the various bodies of that organization.

The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established by Congress in 1813 to ensure that the American public has access to its Government's information.

The Penn State Libraries was designated a "depository of public documents" in 1858. As a Federal Depository Library, the Penn State Libraries maintains its government documents collections according to the standards and guidelines of the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO).

The Microforms and Government Information Center at University Park houses U.S. government documents in all formats: paper, microfiche, microfilm, and CD/DVD. Find Congressional publications, Executive agency documents, U.S. Supreme Court cases, Regulations, and other materials published by the Government Publishing Office and by other federal government agencies.

The Blissell Library at Penn State New Kensington serves the citizens of the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania with a variety of government information resources.

The Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps and Geospatial Information at University Park is the Pennsylvania Regional Depository Library for topographic maps printed by the Government Publishing Office.

The Social Sciences Library maintains collections of foreign and international documents, particularly from Canada, the European Union, and the United Nations.

The Libraries are a Pennsylvania Government Documents Depository Library and house the publications of the Pennsylvania government and its agencies.
