Register with the Libraries

Registering with the PSU Libraries

All faculty and staff officially affiliated with Penn State and residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are permitted to register with the PSU Libraries. Faculty and staff are eligible for Penn State IDs that will serve as library cards. Penn State IDs are available at any Penn State campus ID office. Penn State faculty and staff can complete their library registration immediately after activating their Penn State Access Accounts.

Check the status of your account at:

Volunteers who are Pennsylvania state residents having proper ID (PA drivers license or state ID) with current address can be issued a Resident Borrowers card by the Libraries. Pennsylvania state residents may register at any Penn State University Library. Resident Borrowers who also register online for a Friends of Penn State user account ( https://fps.psu.edu/ ) may view their PSU Libraries borrowing account information and renew borrowed items online.

Access Troubleshooting

Quick fix for when you can't get to an article:

Try forcing the authentication protocol.

Put  http://ezaccess.libraries.psu.edu/login?url=    immediately in front of the url in your browser's address bar.
Eg:  http://ezaccess.libraries.psu.edu/login?url=http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/book/9780125444224
where you replace http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/book/9780125444224 with the url to your resource
NOTE: Make sure there are no spaces in the url!

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

Most library resources do not require the VPN (Virtual Private Network) for off-campus access, however you can try logging in through the VPN if the options above are not successful or if help isn't available.

  1. Download and install the VPN by logging into https://downloads.its.psu.edu and opening "Connecting to Penn State".
  2. Choose the appropriate VPN for your operating system and follow the installation instructions.
  3. When logging in using the VPN, select LIAS VPN from the list of options.
Want to use Google Scholar to find articles?
  1. Create an account in google scholar, and sign into it when searching for articles
  2. In your account settings, select "Library Links"
  3. Type "Pennsylvania State University" in the search box
  4. Select both "Pennsylvania State University - Get It! @ Penn State" and "Open WorldCat-Library Search". and click "SAVE"

This will allow Google Scholar to cross-check some of our subscriptions and give you full-text access with your PSU log-in.
