In Compendex and other databases, start with the "thesaurus," an option under the "search" link, to explore recommended wording for your search. For instance, the accepted terminology is not "engineering management" but simply "management."
Along with "management," Compendex's thesaurus recommends narrower keywords such as:
- Decision making
- Innovation
- Logistics
- Personnel
- Planning
- Project management
- Quality assurance
- ... and other phrases.
In addition, some business databases allow you to search by code numbers pertaining to a certain industry or company. Check a database's "Advanced Search" to see if it allows you to search by:
- NAICS -- North American Industry Classification System -- a code for U.S. industries. To find the NAICS code for your industry, check the U.S. Census Bureau's NAICS lookup site.
- Stock Symbol or Ticker -- an abbreviation for a company's name, used on stock exchanges. To look up a stock symbol, see MarketWatch's lookup site.
