EndNote

is a bibliographic management program that allows users to organize their references, images and PDFs, and create bibliographies and figure lists.

Overview

Penn State does not have a site-wide license to EndNote, but EndNote X5 is available at University Park on public Windows computers in the Pattee Library Knowledge Commons and Sidewater Commons, and in the ITS computer labs. It is not installed on public Macintosh computers at University Park.

The latest version of EndNote can be purchased at a discount for students, faculty and staff through Software @ Penn State.

EndNote Basic

EndNote Basic (also called EndNote Web or EndNote Online) is a free, limited online version of EndNote where users can:

  • Save up to 50,000 references and up to 2 GB of attachments
  • Integrate with Microsoft Word
  • Choose from the seven most popular citaton formats.
  • Share references with other EndNote Basic users

To create a free account, go to the EndNote basic website.

Penn State Users

Penn State users have access to all citation style formats and other additional features through our subscription to Web of Science.

To access these features, create your EndNote basic account on a Penn State computer, or follow these instructions to log in through the Web of Science database:

  1. Log into Web of Science with your PSU ID and password
  2. Click the "sign in" link at the top of the screen
  3. Click Register
  4. Create an account

You can then log into EndNote basic from any computer for up to a year before you need to authenticate again through Web of Science or from a Penn State computer.

EndNote Desktop Users

EndNote Desktop users can sync their desktop program with EndNote basic.

  1. Create an EndNote basic account
  2. From within EndNote desktop, select Edit in the top menu bar
  3. Select Preferences
  4. Click Sync, and enter your EndNote basic account information
