Civil and Environmental Engineering

Resources for Penn State faculty, staff, and students researching civil and environmental engineering topics.

Overview

Engineers are problem-solvers. The best solutions to a problem, especially the most complex ones, are those that take into account the widest possible variety of viewpoints and ideas. Therefore, the importance of diversity in the engineering disciplines cannot be overstated. However, throughout history, not all groups of people have had equal access or equal opportunities to become engineers -- nor have they always been welcome. This page is designed to help engineering students better understand the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access to their chosen profession, as well as assist students from groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM with finding information and organizations that can get them started (and keep them) on the road to success as a Penn State Engineer.
