Lion Search Basics

Try using the different check boxes or filters available on the left side of the screen, including:

  • Refine your search
    • Allows you to limit to specific types of sources or sources that are all available online (Full Text Online)
  • Content Type
    • Can be used to limit to specific source types
  • Publication Date
    • Limit to more recent publications, or enter a year span to find sources within a specific date range.
  • Discipline
    • What academic lens do you want to use to explore your topic?
  • Subject Terms
    • See what terms have provided the best match to your search and consider adding them to your search box

How to Access an Article:

  • If directly available, there should be a box below the citation for "PDF" or "Full Text Online."
  • Less common, you may also see "Citation Online"

Sample results from Lion Search showing sources with access links for PDF, Full Text Online or Citation Online.

Tip: Save the relevant sources into the LionSearch temporary folder by clicking on the small book mark icon to right side of the item.  When you are finished compiling your sources, click on the book mark icon at the top of the screen and email or print (which allows you to copy into your clipboard) the references so you can easily add them to your project.
You can also click the quotation mark icon to create a working citation.

CAVEAT: computer systems citations are automated and while they save time, might not include everything you need, or have too much.
Don’t lose your work!  Unless you sign up for Refworks, items are saved in LionSearch ONLY for your current session.  You won’t be able to go back later and see a list of saved items if you do not export them.
