The Vertical Files are a great place to get a good foundation for your research. Consider these the analog version of Wikipedia--the information in the General Vertical Files is consists of press releases, news clippings, and what we typically think of as "published" material. The Photo Vertical Files contain extensive photographs of campus buildings, student life and activities, athletic events, and PSU faculty and administrators.
