Most labor statistics are obtained by one of two methods:
1) household interviews or questionnaires
2) establishment surveys or records.
Each method provides data that the other cannot suitably supply. Population characteristics, for example, are readily obtainable only from the household survey, while detailed industrial classifications can be readily derived only from establishment records.
