In Compendex and other databases, start with the "thesaurus" under the "search" link to explore recommended wording for your search. For instance, the accepted terminology is not "engineering management" but simply "management."
For example, along with "air pollution," "soil pollution," and "water pollution," Compendex's thesaurus recommends:
- Agricultural runoff
- Air purification
- Air quality
- Carbon dioxide
- Fumes
- Greenhouse gases
- Hazardous materials spills
- Particulate emissions
- Pesticide effects
- Water filtration
- Water management
- Water supply
- ... and other phrases.
In addition, some law/public policy databases allow you to search by jurisdiction or other criteria. Check a database's "Advanced Search" to see if it allows you to search by:
- Jurisdiction (state, country, continent, etc.)
- Political leaning (left/liberal, centrist, right/conservative, etc.)
- Type of document (journal article, government document, report, etc.)
