Visualizing Economics"Catherine Mulbrandon combines her expertise in both economics and design to illustrate the economy of the United States to present economic and financial data in context that helps people understand —at a glance— what the numbers really mean...In 2006, she launched VisualizingEconomics.com, a website dedicated to publishing infographics about economic data and promoting data visualization.

Campus and University Resources

  • Career Services: Located in SEC 212, the Career Services Office helps students and alumni find full and part-time employment, co-ops and internships. It also helps with job planning and aiding employers in recruiting new employees.
  • Child Care Subsidy: The Student Parent Child Care Subsidy program is a federal CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Means Parents in School) and Penn State Student Initiated Fee (SIF) funded program that helps qualifying, low-income student parents sustain their educational efforts by paying a portion of their child care costs and encouraging them to select high-quality child care.
  • Student Care and Advocacy: Located in SEC 212L, the Student Care and Advocacy Office provides students with the necessary tools and support to make difficult situations more manageable, including -- but not limited to -- financial insecurity, housing/food insecurity and transportation difficulties.
  • WE cARE Food PantryThe WE cARE Food Pantry at Penn State Harrisburg opened in August 2018 to combat student food insecurity. The pantry provides various food and non-food items. It is funded by donations and operated by a dedicated committee of staff, faculty and students.
    • Currently, the pantry is operating under an online ordering system. To place an online order, go to the pantry's Engage@Harrisburg page and log in with their Penn State account. Go to the forms section. Students must fill out an intake form every semester and an order form for every pick-up.
    • Various information, including how to place an order, how to donate to the pantry, and how to find the pantry, are located on the pantry's Instagram (@wecarepshbg) and Facebook (wecarepshbg) pages. These accounts also update with other pantry notices, such as new stock or changes in operating hours.
  • YWCA Advocate at Penn State Harrisburg -- Lily Duarte: Located in SEC 212R, this is a resource for sexual assault victims and a connection to the YWCA

  • Central Pennsylvania Food Bank: The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is an affiliate of Feeding America and Feeding Pennsylvania, and it serves Pennsylvanians in 27 counties by partnering with over 1,300 local agencies and programs.

  • The Common WheelThe Common Wheel is a nonprofit bike center and co-op in Lancaster. 
    • Programs: Earn A Bike, Bikes for All, Spring Bike Fling, Adult Mechanic Class, Youth Bike Workshop, Queers & Gears, Art Party, Safe Spaces, First Friday
      • Bikes for All: Provides a reliable set of wheels to our formerly incarcerated, refugee and low-income neighbors, helping them meet their unique transportation needs
      • Adult Mechanic Class: Two-day, hands-on workshop for fundamental bike maintenance
      • Queers & Gears: Safe and affirming space; free guided repairs, 10% off new parts and accessories; discussion, guided bike rides
      • Safe Spaces: In partnership with YWCA Lancaster; space for POC; free guided repairs, 15% off new parts and accessories; discussions, guided bike ride
  • Dress for Success South Central PADress for Success South Central PA is a non-profit organization and program of Suits to Careers, Inc. It serves Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties as well as five more through their Mobile Unit. Dress for Success helps unemployed and underemployed women locate a position and find a career. Services include personal shopping appointments with clothing donations, resume and cover letter help and more.
  • Hershey Public Library Resources
    • Career Transitions (Hershey Public Library Access): Job and internship searches; finding career interests to match yours or new career paths; help with resumes, cover letters and interviews; video tutorials on job hunting and working with a career coach

    • U.S. Citizenship (Hershey Public Library Access): Access to tutor.com materials on Citizenship Eligibility and Process (U.S.) and Citizenship Test (U.S.) for the civics test and English test; books on U.S. citizenship from the library catalog
  • Money in Your Pocket Tax Preparation Program -- United Way Capital RegionFrom January through April, volunteers help local families prepare tax returns through the VITA program.
  • YWCA: YWCA USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
    • YWCA Greater Harrisburg -- Programs: Housing and homelessness programs, Violence intervention and prevention services, domestic violence legal center, family visitation services, child development services, Economic and Neighborhood Development, veterans services
    • YWCA Lancaster -- Programs: Mary Kepler Residence Program, Ywonderful Kids, sexual assault and prevention counseling, Center for Racial and Gender Equity
