The Pennsylvania State University Libraries’ Eberly Family Special Collection houses nationally significant collections documenting industrial and labor history in the core Pennsylvania coal and steel industries. Inclusive collections spotlight managerial and technological history, as well as labor-management relations within these industries. Moreover, several collections document the rise of 20th industrial unionism in America—a transformative movement that contributed to the rise of the middle-class and a counterbalance to concentrated corporate power and anti-union forces.
This guide highlights digital resources for research related to the history of coal, steel, and industrial unionism. Many of the featured resources were digitized with the generous support of a Mellon Foundation funded Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Digitizing Hidden Special Collections & Archives grant.
