Not bad read about a fictitious rock band in the 1970's and their rise to fame on the California Music Scene. The book was developed into a miniseries on Amazon Prime and is loosely based on Fleetwood Mac. It is written documentary style with each of the band members interviewed by the author. I listened to the audio version on Libby which kept it interesting to hear all their different voices. -

I don't like giving books a bad review, but I struggled to both get through this (audio)book and follow the plot. The writing was decent, but the story felt weak and disjointed. Feeling a bit disappointed with this one. I love Backman, his style, the way he tells stories, they way his words so often hit my heart. And I'm not saying there wasn't any of that in this novel, just not as much, I guess. With surprising annoyances along the way. Some of the characters were not believable to me. Some were grating. Parts of the plot were not believable and grating. There was a lot of repetition of plot points, words, and phrases. It went on too long, too many fake-out moments, and even though the end was fitting, it was just a bit meh for me. Which I guess is a good way to sum up the read for me - meh. Which pains me, but is my truth. -

I liked the idea of this novel, and I really enjoyed the humor...but it fell pretty flat for me by the end. It is very, very long. Too long. Very drawn out. There is a lot of repetition, and dear God, how many times did a character need to "arch a brow" or "cock his head"? So much use of the same words and phrases is lazy writing in my opinion. To me, things got so complicated with how it's all supposed to work followed by the big change-up that occurs, that it just gets sloppy and nonsensical. And the love story? Bah. Cliche and forced. It was fine enough for me to finish it, but overall, had more promise to it that wasn't fulfilled. -

Boring AF, dry as dirt, and stupid long. It's a really disjointed and awkward read with ridiculous made up monologues and conversations between characters. Also. My dude. You're writing a true crime book. You're not William Butler Yates. Enough with the attempt at flowery, poetic language. Maybe just focus on basic writing and storytelling skills. -
