ENGL 191: Science Fiction (Berzsenyi)

Welcome to the Course Guide for ENGL 191: Science Fiction as taught by Dr. Christyne Berzsenyi . This course "introduces students to the surprisingly long history of science fiction as a way of exploring both the microcosm and the macrocosm, mapping a species imagining themselves into the future." Students will be reading examples of science fiction, then complete research on a work of written or visual art that is classified as science fiction. 

Research Project Steps:

  1. Select a topic & Narrow Your Focus - Start to build your "background knowledge" on this topic. Use the Reference & Encyclopedias page.
  2. Research - Look for Books, articles, or websites on to answer your research question
  3. Attribute - Cite your sources according to the style guide of your choice. Be consistent and use the same citation style throughout your paper.

Basic book searching

  • Use the Keyword function and combine terms to search on a topic then use the subject headings from relevant books for additional search terms.
  • Write down the call number and location for any book you want. If the item is not at your campus use the "I Want It" button to request it. 
  • For electronic books, click the link under the words "online content" to access the full text
