Most states do not allow you to simply show up and vote. You need to be "registered" first.

Pennsylvania residents: check the PA Department of State Voter Services Registration Status web site

  • If you find your name there, note your "district" numbers for the U.S. House, State Senate, and State House. This will help you find information about the correct candidates.
  • Also note your "polling place." This is the place where you will vote if you choose to vote in person. 

Non-Pennsylvania residents: find the link for your state's voter services site by clicking on the "Voting in Other States" menu tab.

  • Scroll down the page to find your state.
  • After searching your state's site, note any information it provides about your districts numbers and polling place. 

Registration Deadlines

In Pennsylvania, the deadline to register for the 2022 general election is Monday, October 24. If you're not already registered to vote in PA, it's not too late to register for the 2022 general election.

To vote in future PA elections:

College students whose homes are in other states may be able to register and vote in their home states.

  • Check your state's deadline by using the "Voting in Other States" menu tab in this guide. 
  • On the left side of the page, click on the state name for a direct link to its voter registration page.

Note: states vary in terms of how to register. Some tips:

  • Look for options to register online, or register in person.
  • You may need to show or provide the numbers of your driver's license or other ID.
