What is Fracking?
Hydraulic fracturing (popularly shortened to 'fracking') is a method for extracting oil from rock seams. The technology has been in use since the 1940's but has recently gained prominence due to its use in several oil shale regions. Controversy about the technology relates primarily to the environmental impacts and related health concerns.
