Students will be writing a 3-5 page paper in which they will provide a definition of "identity" as it pertains to one or more of the characters in class readings, then examine whether one's identity can be altered over time. Students should use examples of characters discussed in stories read in class as well as at least two outside (academic) sources to support your definition and subsequent opinions.
While sources like "Wikipedia" will not be accepted, an academic website dealing with literary criticism or perhaps a psychological approach to identity would be perfect. Of course, good old-fashioned journals and books are encouraged as well!
In today's class students will:
- learn where to start academic research
- learn a technique for evaluating information
- learn how to get research help from the library
