If you are going to do transcriptions, software will vastly cutdown on your biggest time investment.  For every hour of audio, this equals approximately 5 hours of transcription time with the software.   There are many options and all of them have free trials.  Some are for a week, some are for a certain amount of time.  

Trint is the software Penn State Altoona uses for their transcription.  Our personal experience is that it is easy to use and intuitive.  You can try Trint free of charge for 7 days to see if it is worth it to you. Trint is pricey.  It is around $60 a month.  You can purchase by the month.
