Birds and Birding

This guide provides information and resources for anyone interested in birding in and around Pennsylvania

Introduction

This guide provides resources for anyone interested in learning more about birding, also called bird watching (the practice of finding, observing, identifying and recording bird species), in and around Pennsylvania. You’ll find a curated list of useful websites for birding in Pennsylvania and beyond, as well as links to field guides and other books in the Penn State Libraries catalog. Use the tabs on the left to start exploring.

Birding is a great way to enjoy nature, reduce stress, and contribute to citizen science by recording and sharing your bird lists. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania is home to 436 species of wild birds. Wherever you are in the state there's a lot to see, so grab a pair of binoculars and start birding!
