How to Read a Patent

  1. Title - Deliberately vague to protect the invention 
  2. Inventor - The person that developed the invention
  3. Assignee - Usually the company the inventor works for
  4. Classification - Alphanumeric system used to group similar patents together
  5. Claims - What the invention is supposed to do. Uses legal language to protect the invention
