Evidence-based practice for speech and language pathologists involves the integration of three
areas of knowledge when developing a plan of action for a client (Justice & Redle, 2014). The
three areas of knowledge are (a) external scientific evidence, (b) clinician expertise, and (c)
client/patient/caregiver perspectives (Justice & Redle, 2014). For this assignment, you will learn
how to locate and interpret a scholarly journal article as part of the process of considering the
scientific evidence when developing a plan of action for a client.

Description of Presentation
Students will work in groups of two. Each group will locate a scholarly journal article on a
specific topic related to communication disorders.

The journal article should describe an intervention that can be used by speech and language
pathologists to treat the specific disorder selected. Students will prepare a 10-minute
presentation that includes the following:
a. A description of the disorder
b. A description of the participants involved in the study
c. A description of the intervention
d. A description of the findings/results

The presentations are due on November 8.
