Information Literacy Toolkit

The Search Bar is a collaboration between the University Libraries and Penn State Learning. Located in the Sidewater Commons of Pattee Library at University Park, it is staffed by Peer Research Consultants, trained students who can help other Penn State students conduct research and use library resources, in addition to writing tutors. Consultations are available as walk-in service (no appointments required) and in-person or virtual appointments that can be made through Starfish. Students from any Penn State location can receive assistance with choosing or narrowing down a topic, writing a research question, finding and evaluating information sources, and navigating the Libraries’ website.

The Search Bar is open when classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters. We invite you to encourage your students to seek assistance when they need it!

We welcome instructors to encourage your students to use The Ask a Librarian service when they are struggling with library resources or research. By clicking on the blue button on the library web page, or using the Ask a Librarian link in the Library Resources section of Canvas, students can chat with someone in real time, request a consultation, or submit an email for later response.
