Citation Managers

Citation managers like Zotero and Mendeley (free!) allow you to:

  • store your research files, like article and report PDFs
  • collect citation information for all your sources in one place
  • share your research with group-mates
  • build your own personal research library

They will also help you cite your sources! Just remember that the output is only as good as the input--make sure you have complete information (author, date, title, source) and look for errors.

Grammarly

Poor spelling, long run-on sentences, and passive tone are a few of the writing mistakes that can turn off your readers. In this class you will be writing for both general and academic audiences, and knowing how to do both is important in the professional world.

Use the Grammarly browser extension for your Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge browsers for spelling corrections and feedback on your writing as you type in some applications. You can also log into the Grammarly site and upload your writing for some general feedback on your tone and clarity (and more with an upgraded account).

With a FREE account, get basic writing corrections on spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Or, choose to upgrade for more features. (Please note that full-feature accounts are not provided by Penn State.)
