- Check commercial websites such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, etc.
- Check out of print sites such as Alibris and others listed on this guide.
- Check eBay and similar re-sale sites.
- Check HathiTrust or Google Books to see if the item is available for free, such as an out-of-copyright work.
- Check WorldCat.org to verify details and identify potential alternate versions, e.g., a scanned version.
- Contact a local bookshop near where the book was published, or near the topic of the work.
- Contact the local historical society or library to see if they have copes for sale or can refer you to a local bookshop.
- Register your interest in obtaining a copy vendors such as https://www.alibris.com/bookfetch
- WorldCat.org may show some libraries that own the work. You can submit a request via your local library to borrow the item.
