Clips from Streaming Videos

Several of our library’s streaming video databases provide tools for creating and using clips or segments of a video.

  • Films on Demand supplies “segments” for each of their videos. Each segment has a specific URL that can be shared or embedded in a webpage or Canvas course site. The list of segments is displayed to the right of the player window.
  • Kanopy provides a tool for creating clips in custom playlists. Sign up for a free personal user account with Kanopy which allows you to create playlists and view videos through Kanopy’s mobile apps by clicking on the account button in the top right of the Kanopy screen. To create clips, follow Kanopy's instructions to create a playlist, add a video, and edit the video start and end times.
  • Alexander Street Press databases provide a tool called “Clips” at the top of the player window for each video. To create clips, sign up for a free personal user account which can be used to access playlists and create clips. To create your account, click on the “user account” icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Clips from DVDs (for Instructors)

Instructors may request short portions, or clips, from DVDs and other physical video formats, to be streamed for a specific course and semester, so long as use of the clips qualifies as fair use. The video clips are accessed via the Course Reserves electronic reserves webpage. To request video clips for your course, send an email message to the Music & Media Center at musiccenter@psu.edu with information about the video and course.
