SDCET Search Tips

In Compendex and other databases, start with the "thesaurus" under the "search" link to explore recommended wording for your search. Along with "structural design" and "construction," Compendex's thesaurus recommends broader, related, and narrower keywords such as:

  • Architectural design
  • Building materials
  • Environmental engineering
  • Impact resistance (or fire resistance, or hurricane resistance)
  • Concrete construction (or masonry construction, or steel construction, or wooden construction)
  • Soil mechanics
  • Steel and concrete design
  • Stresses
  • Structural analysis
  • Structural dynamics
  • Structural integrity
  • ... and other phrases.

Open Educational Resources for Engineers

The American Society for Engineering Education's (ASEE) Engineering Libraries Division (ELD) recently created a wonderful guide for Open Educational Resources (OER) for a wide variety of engineering disciplines. If you are looking for additional resources, free of cost and openly available, please review ASEE's ELD resource page at this link.
